|Nisar accuses Imran of tax evasion, concealing assets|
03 August 2012
ISLAMABAD: Documents were enough to prove that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan had over the last over 30 years committed heinous crime of tax evasion and hiding his assets, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said here Thursday.
Addressing a press conference at the Punjab House, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, a senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), challenged Imran Khan to move any court of law against him if he (Nisar) is false in his claim that Imran had accumulated millions of rupees in the last 30 years but never filed tax returns till the year 2003.
Showing the general power of attorney of Jemima Khan daughter of Sir James Goldsmith of 300 kanals of land in Bani Gala through which the land was transferred to Imran Khan in 2004, Nisar said in tax returns of 2005 Imran did not mentioned the same land while it was shown in 2006 tax returns as gifted.
In the power of attorney, Jemima says the land measuring 300 kanals and five marlas in the revenue estate of Mohra Noor village in Islamabad district was purchased by Imran Khan son of Ikramullah Khan Niazi. “The land was transferred in my name through mutation by my husband Imran as ‘Benami transaction’. After divorce, I do not intend to keep the land with me,” Jemima said. Similarly, Nisar said, Imran and his other family members, including sisters, own over 391 kanals of land near Sheikhupura but the same was also not reflected in the tax returns.
He said that in his 2004 tax returns Imran mentioned the value of his assets to the tune of over Rs75 million, which declined to Rs35 million in 2008 despite the fact that the number of his foreign accounts increased from two to four.
Defending business being run by Hasan Nawaz in England and Hussain Nawaz in Saudi Arabia, Nisar said they got loans of millions of pounds and riyals to run their business. He also challenged Rehman Malik to go to authorities in London or move Supreme Court of Pakistan or any of the high courts to prove his allegations of money laundering against Nawaz Sharif or his sons.
The leader of the opposition also proposed all the political parties to move for the constitution of judicial commission or tribunal to ascertain assets of all the politicians. At the same time, he said, the parties should come out of blame game and join hands to throw out the corrupt rulers.
The PML-N leader said Imran Khan might have set many records in cricket but he also created records of false allegations and blames with focus on the country’s major opposition party, instead of targeting the corrupt government and misdeeds of its allies.
